Label Management System

Globally Scalable Integrated Label & Printer Management Centralised label design, template governance and print orchestration on Ignition, with GS1 barcodes, SSCC generation and multi-site template sync.

Built on Inductive Automation IgnitionGS1, EPCIS, EU Digital Product Passport (DPP), ISO/IEC 15416

The challenge

Manufacturing labelling remains one of the most fragmented functions in the enterprise, scattered across vendor-specific design tools, manual print processes, disconnected ERP label data and inconsistent template governance across sites. Mislabelled products lead to regulatory recalls, customer complaints and supply chain disruption.

Overview

The LOGICAL SYSTEMS Label Management System (LMS) replaces fragmented, vendor-dependent labelling with a single, globally scalable platform for centralised label design, data aggregation, template governance, print orchestration and traceability. Built on the Inductive Automation® Ignition platform, it aggregates label data from SAP IDocs, PIM/PLM systems, OPC UA, MQTT and local OT sources into a central data hub, while a WYSIWYG template designer binds dynamic fields to GS1 Application Identifiers.

Print jobs are created automatically from SAP IDoc arrivals, UNS tag changes or production thresholds, and pre-print validation checks data completeness and barcode grades before any label reaches a printer. Native integration with the Unified Namespace (UNS) App injects line, shift, batch and product code from ISA-95 aligned tag structures, while Enterprise Sync keeps every plant printing from the same approved templates. With no per-user fees, no additional middleware licensing and full air-gapped deployment capability, labelling becomes a first-class part of your manufacturing platform.

Capabilities

What LMS does

Template Governance

  • WYSIWYG template designer with drag-and-drop field placement
  • Single versioned, approval-controlled template library replacing fragmented vendor tools
  • Dynamic fields bound to GS1 Application Identifiers, eliminating manual data entry
  • Pre-print checks on data completeness, barcode quality grades and field formats
  • Every print job linked to a production order, template version and printer

Print Orchestration

  • Automatic and manual print job creation
  • Jobs triggered by SAP IDoc arrivals, UNS tag changes or production thresholds
  • Multi-printer fleet management with queue priority and failed job recovery
  • Offline store-and-forward printing that continues through network disruption

Barcode & Identifier Integrity

  • Symbology quality validation to ISO/IEC 15416 (1D) and 15415 (2D)
  • Barcode engine with 7 configurable profiles across 1D and 2D symbologies
  • Code 128, EAN-13, ITF-14, GS1-128, PDF 417, Data Matrix and QR Code
  • GS1 Application Identifier registry of 16 active AIs
  • 18-digit SSCC generation per GS1 with GLN and Plant-ID enforcement
  • Automatic SAP Handling Unit submission, with offline generation and queued synchronisation

Enterprise Synchronization

  • Approved templates propagated from a central authority to all sites
  • Conflict detection, version comparison and push/pull synchronisation
  • Every plant prints from the same controlled source
  • Native Ignition integration with no per-user fees or additional middleware licensing
  • Full air-gapped deployment capability

Data-Driven Automation

  • Data hub ingesting SAP IDocs (ZMATMAS, ZLOIPRO05), PIM/PLM, OPC UA and MQTT
  • Field mappings with transform expressions; store-and-forward through intermittent connectivity
  • Tag change, tag threshold and IDoc arrival triggers, monitored in a real-time log
  • UNS tag bindings add line, shift, batch ID and recipe code at print time
  • Print events published back to the UNS for monitoring and MES integration
  • Pre-print rules, completeness scoring, nonconformity alerts and structured error escalation

Benefits

Why manufacturers choose LMS

One labelling platform

Replaces fragmented, vendor-dependent labelling with a single, globally scalable platform.

Lower mislabelling risk

Reduces mislabelling risk through pre-print validation and barcode grade verification.

Automated print jobs

Automates print job creation from production events, SAP triggers and UNS tag changes, without operator intervention.

Consistent labels across sites

Ensures label consistency across sites with enterprise template governance and synchronisation.

Offline, air-gapped printing

Enables offline printing for air-gapped OT environments without network dependency.

Faster SAP integration

Accelerates SAP integration with pre-built IDoc parsers, with no third-party middleware dependency or additional middleware licensing.

LS Assistant built in

Ask LMS in plain language

LS Assistant, the AI assistant in every Logical Systems application, answers questions from your live LMS records and shows the sources behind every answer. It keeps learning as your records, work instructions and resolved issues grow, and your data is never used to train AI models.
